Our Story
“Into the field I go, to lose my mind and find my soul”
Hi! Thanks for stopping by and letting me share my story! My name is Sarah, and I am the owner of Electric Gardens. I am also a proud single mama of a crazy long haired boy named Lennon, a dog named Grampaw, and our resident gopher hunter, a cat named Bologna. We started our farm in the crazy year of 2020, when we sold our first home and all it’s comforts to move to an 8 acre piece of land with no house. I had dreamed and searched and attempted to buy land for years, and it always fell apart. Looking back, and looking around at what we have been blessed with now, I understand why some things have to fall apart so other things can fall into place.
I had been a bartender by profession and perpetual party host my whole adult life. I have also always tried to balance being outside, connecting with nature, and my love of growing things. My priorities really changed when I had my son, as they are apt to do. I knew more than ever I wanted him to grow up in the country, and have the lifestyle and values that come with it. I wanted to be home and outside with him, and watch him grow. I had no idea how I was going to accomplish this. I was always looking for property, but didn’t know how I was going to make the leap financially. I knew I wanted to learn more about farming, and signed up for the local Master Gardeners program. My passion for growing really took off from there.
In the beginning of 2020, an opportunity arose to sell my home and possibly buy land, right as the COVID-19 pandemic also started forcing me out of bartending. I knew I had to find a way to be sustainable on my land and provide for my family. I envisioned buying property I could develop into a wedding/event venue (when things got back to normal) and utilize my hospitality experience and love of hosting parties. I dreamed of brides posing amongst beautifully landscaped flower beds and fields. I thought I’d have a little roadside produce stand. When I found our farm, it was like all the puzzle pieces fit together suddenly. I didn’t even give a second thought to the fact there was no house to live in. Here was 8 acres of flat farmland, with a cute old tasting room. There was a lot of infrastructure in place for hosting events. However, as we all know, 2020 was not the year to try to host events. The building and property needed a ton of repairs before I could welcome the public. I had to find another income stream to afford this. I soaked up any farming knowledge and resources I could find, and set off to make the farmstand a reality. I started cutting new fields, installing irrigation, sowing seeds, building beds and infrastructure. Before I knew it I had about three acres of production!! The crazy thing is once I started planting flowers, it was all over. I realized I didnt just want beautiful flowers in the landscape. Flowers became everything. I just wanted learn about and grow ALL the flowers! I learned and practiced everything I could about growing, harvesting, and arranging beautiful seasonal flowers. I was blessed with a scholarship to the 2021 Floret Workshop, and continue to seek out knowledge and resources.
While it took us most of the year to build this new farm and make the necessary repairs to our buildings and landscape, we are so proud of what we have built here, and can’t wait to share it with you! We will be offering our flowers and services for Weddings and Special Events, through our CSA bouquet subscription, and wholesale to local florists. We also have big plans for U-pick events, a local on site farmers market, a pumpkin patch, and of course hopefully we can host some weddings!
I am so amazed and so blessed to get to call the beautiful Applegate Valley my home, and play with my son in the flower fields. It is really a dream come true. I truly can’t wait to share this beauty and abundance with you! Thanks for stopping by!!!
